Inspiration came from
We currently need to wear masks every day! By making use of single-use medical masks we are creating an environmental problem. That got us thinking, how can we reduce this type of waste, by creating a mask that is biodegradable! Instead of harming our planet, we want to create a product that could possibly nurture the ground.
What social problems do you solve?
Mask pollution has become a major issue since the start of COVID-19. Masks are ending up in landfills as well as oceans. Creating more health risks for people as well as animals that roam freely. We are wanting to grow a very small market of biodegradable masks and make a version that is financially viable on a commercial scale.
How do we start from 0 to 1
Our knowledge of biodegradable materials and possible techniques needed to create a mask that would pass the standard tests. We are attempting to make our own material and would appreciate donations. We would also appreciate a mentor from 2 possible industries, namely, mask design and flexible biodegradable materials.
The challenge we encountered
Due to the virus we have sadly not been able to be hands on and make our masks. We are asking for enough materials that each learner in our group can attempt to make masks at home.

Who are we
We are group 4 from St Hilarys Primary school. We have 13 learners in our group with the grade range being grade 4 to 6.
