Student shared the common interest to help the stray animals in Hong Kong. One of the news reports in SCMP, mentioned that there are over 1179 stray dogs and cats in Hong Kong. They need to be rehomed through animal welfare organisations. One of the main reasons is due to the abandon of pets to the streets. About 7.6 percent of Hong Kong households kept dogs as pets in 2023, amounting to about 209 thousand households. Hong Kong's dog population totaled approximately 304 thousand that year and Each year an estimated 40,000 unwanted dogs and cats animals are killed in Hong Kong. There simply aren't enough good homes for them all. Even those that are lucky enough to find a home may not be lucky enough to keep it and end up abandoned back in the shelter system again.

Each year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats in the World are killed every year because shelters are too full and there aren't enough adoptive homes. The abandonment problem in Hong Kong is serious．According to data from the Agriculture, fisheries and conservation, in 2015, the department captured 1359 and 2,412 stray cats and dogs respectively, and a total of 3,117 cats and dogs were humanely destroyed.in the same year, the SPCA also received 4,225 abandoned cats and dogs , of which 1,123 were euthanized.
