Inspiration came from
We noticed that many of our peers are stressed and anxious about upcoming events and as students we understand how stressful school life can get and how hard it can be to have good time management. Through our friends and classmates, we can see that this situation is very common and can cause a HUGE burden and lead to high levels of stress at the same time. As a result, we wanted to understand more about what is happening in Hong Kong.
Our group researched about the lives of Hong Kong students. We were SURPRISED to find out that … out of 6,073 secondary students, 45.1% of them rated their back-to-school stress levels between 7 and 10.
So we wanted to create an app to help them not only mange their time better but also help eat healthier and track their moods not only that but console them .
What social problems do you solve?
Self-care is important, especially among teenagers. Through self-care, they can relieve stress, promoting mental, social and emotional well-being.
To understand the problem better, we interviewed our school counsellors. They told us about the Three-Tier Model for the whole-school approach to wellbeing. We learned that prevention is key, and we want to help students feel happier.
That’s why we came up with a two part solution: Taking care of yourself in and out of school.
Taking care of yourself in school involves a series of mindfulness activities. Taking care of yourself out of school uses a special app designed for students in our school. We aim to conduct a pilot test of our solutions in our school first before reaching out to other schools.
Our first solution involves mindfulness. We plan to run different activities that promote mental, social or emotional wellbeing during break time so that our classmates are able to have moments in school where they are reminded to take care of themselves. We also created a criteria to filter the type of mindfulness activities we want to implement.
Our second solution is the app, we’re designing it to help students in our school develop better self-care habits and promote overall well-being. It will remind them when to study, when to take breaks and even suggest quick mindfulness exercises. It will also have a mood tracker to allow them to record their highs and lows. It’s like having a personal wellbeing coach in your pocket!

Resources Needed
We would like to receive funding to run different activities at school for our classmates. We hope that by running these activities we can help improve our classmates' wellbeing and promote these activities to other schools.
We would like to receive training from instructors on how to code an app on the iPad.
Who we are
We are a group of students from DGJS and creators of the app called “REfresh” that improves mental health of our classmates and peers, we hope that we can help more people in the future.
