Design Updates on our Emotions & Needs Card

In the end of June, my grade 4 students successfully debuted their first set of “Emotion & Needs card” in the Dreamstarter Project Exhibition.

Before we finalized the design, I ask the following questions to ensure student’s design can address the following pain point:

While there’s a lot of emotion & needs card, how do we make the user know how to use it intuitively & build a habit of using?

Together, we research on the card games they usually play, discuss how they get in touch with the  game at the very first place, how do they learn how to play.

“Our classmate always play the UNO cards during the recess, why don’t we combine the design of two cards together!” A student shared

This idea completely shifts the way how we approach the card design. As they already have a habit of playing UNO, the dual card design help expose the card to more users & increase the incentive for user to use the card when they need it.

Design thinking allows students to think creatively & systematically at the same time. By carrying out case study, we can potentially come up with creative solutions we had never thought before.
