WishHaven began with a story close to our hearts. One of our teammates faced a heartbreaking reality when their loved one was diagnosed with cancer. Watching their family navigate the emotional and physical toll of the illness opened our eyes to something often overlooked: cancer doesn’t just affect the patient—it touches everyone around them. Families, caretakers, and loved ones all bear the weight of this journey.
In that deeply personal moment, we saw a spark of what mattered most. Despite the pain, the family found joy in small but meaningful moments together—sharing laughter, supporting one another, and making memories that would last forever. It was this realization that inspired us to create WishHaven.
Our mission is rooted in compassion and connection. We want to remind families to not let stress overshadow the love and light they can share. Cancer patients often want their caretakers and families to not only support them but also be present with them, creating moments of happiness that they can cherish.
WishHaven is about more than just fulfilling wishes—it’s about lifting the weight off families’ shoulders and encouraging them to focus on the things that truly matter: love, comfort, and togetherness. Our journey started with one story, but today, it’s about many. Through WishHaven, we hope to bring hope, joy, and strength to every family facing this challenging path.
Inspiration came from
Our journey to help the cancer patient’s families started when we realised that one of our classmate’s grandparents was diagnosed with cancer. We felt really sorry and decided to start taking on the journey to help the cancer patients families.
What social problems do you solve?
Cancer doesn't just affect patients; it impacts their families and caregivers, bringing emotional stress that is often overlooked. In the midst of caregiving, families may unintentionally neglect the importance of building meaningful memories together, losing out on moments that could strengthen their bonds. Limiteds support systems exacerbate the situation, leaving families without adequate platforms to help them cope emotionally or fulfill wishes during such challenging times. Furthermore, the financial burden of cancer care can add significant pressure, making it harder for families to prioritize their overall well-being and emotional connections. Instead of focusing on the cancer patient, we also give support for the families and their caretakers.
How do we start from 0 to 1
We have this idea to help the terminal cancer patient’s families because we feel sorry for them and want them to be able to spend time with the cancer patient before he/she passes away, and let the patient do all the things he/she wants to do.
The challenge we encountered
We lack time to take care of the patients and to make memories with them. We also lack money to make the app.
The resources we needed
We need IT support in creating the app and financial support for huge-budget resources for the app like the service-support list and the bucket list.
who are we
We are the Light Bearers, a group of students who want to solve the problem that cancer patients’ families are facing.
