Why we choose this topic?
- Giant panda habitat loss due to deforestation is alarming. By empowering students, we promote broader ecosystem protection that aligns with global sustainability goals and fosters proactive conservation efforts.
- Many students love panda toys and cartoons, but only later learn that wild panda numbers are limited. We want to move from just 'loving pandas' to truly 'protecting pandas'.
- We personally realized that if young people only see pandas as 'cute stars' and don’t understand habitat destruction, climate change, and human impact, they are less likely to take real action in the future.
- Therefore, we want to start with students and families, turning casual watching into real caring and meaningful action.
What kind of problems need to be addressed?
- Shallow understanding of panda conservation: many only know 'pandas are cute and eat bamboo', but not about shrinking habitats, climate change, or low genetic diversity.
- Deforestation and urban development fragment forests and limit pandas’ movement.
- Climate change and bamboo forest degradation affect pandas’ main food source.
Dreamstarter Group Plans for the Year
Join the Pandastic Discovery Adventure Program
- Organized by Ocean Park to explore and learn about wildlife and conservation.

Recycling Initiatives
- Transform recycled wood into sustainable and functional products, including:
- Cup holders
- Trays
- Phone holders
- Develop plantable notebooks and bamboo-seed embedded paper.
- ......
Challenges & Support
- Materials: leftover or unwanted wooden boards and wooden pieces to reuse and recreate into our exhibits and activity tools.
- Support: help collecting these wooden materials from schools, community centres, or sponsors, so we can reduce waste and highlight upcycling in our panda conservation project.
Who are we?
We are Dreamstarter MK Group 7, 6E students, guided by Ms. Yan and Ms. Celeste.
As part of the Ocean Park Conservation Alliance, we are proud to participate as Seahorse Rangers. This initiative is designed to deepen our understanding of wildlife conservation through direct, meaningful experiences at Ocean Park.
Our journey as Rangers is about moving beyond the classroom—transforming knowledge into perspective and passion into action for a more sustainable future.
