Homeless may be one of the less privileged groups of people in Hong Kong. In fact, they are “more” than that! Each of them has talents and skills. That is why we call ourselves “Less is More”. Homeless are now lacking a platform and a chance to shine. Our group will organize a Handcraft Market together with the homeless women! We will make macrame paper chairs and handmade soaps together!

We went to the Sham Shui Po Walking Tour to learn about Homeless in Hong Kong
We met our tour guide Uncle KK who is a former Homeless. He shared his story on his life being homeless. He showed us the place that he used to go to when he was homeless. Uncle KK now lived in the cubic house. He also mentioned the living condition and difficulties that he is facing now.

Although he lost all his savings and became homeless, he wants to use his skills and talents to earn money.  Unfortunately, there are fewer job opportunities because of the Covid-19, he is not able to get a job.

Every homeless has their own story. Some of them want to use their ability to earn a living. Just like Uncle KK and the women from the homeless women shelter (Aroma of Love 延愛坊). However, they don't know what to do. Maybe they are too old to be hired or maybe they are too shy in the job interview.

Students notice that Uncle KK and the women from Aroma of Love are very talented and got a lot of hidden skills. We think of creating a platform to let them shine!

Nowadays Handcraft Market is getting popular and this kind of markets can let everyone to show their talents to the public. Students think this is a perfect platform to let the homeless shine.

St. Hilarys's College (Primary Section) "Less is More" x  Aroma of Love "Homeless Women" featured Handcraft Market.
Products:
1.  Body and beauty care products by Homeless Women
2. Macrame Paper Chairs by Students and Women ( Decorating the chair and
    making the macrame together )

A chair is a piece of furniture that every home should have. It symbolizes home. Although the homeless do not have a place to call home at the moment, students want to tell them that there will be a place called home waiting for them in the near future.

Let's support us to find out what we will make!

我們遇到的挑戰

  1. Finding the Homeless
Some of the Homeless tend to hide away from the general public. They may be lack of confidence to stand in front of people to show their ability.
  2. Finding a free booth in Handcraft Market
Handcraft Market usually requires a rental fee to set up a selling booth. However, students and homeless women cannot afford the high rental fee. Therefore, students decided to write a letter to different handcraft market organizers to ask for a free selling booth. Here are students' handwritten letters.
